Thinking about sustainable building?

We know you care about the environment, health and wellbeing of the people you share your home with, and we are really passionate about incorporating sustainable building principles into every build.

Everyone has their own take on building sustainable and we start with what we can control, from site run off and waste management, better managing the quantities and quality of materials and where they are sourced through to constantly educating ourselves as new building techniques become available.

How green your home is depends on you and your budget, and we will do everything we can to incorporate the things that are important to you ensuring that your home is built to you and your family’s dreams, wants and needs at the best price.

Thank you Josh, Sarah, Ben and Tak, you are a great team. It’s as though you and the team have a sixth sense for building, renovation and custom improvements. Extremely flexible, professional and punctual, to a level not commonly seen in the building industry, and certainly not in this location. Reducing the complex to simple and genuinely caring about the outcome. My wife and I would highly recommend the NZ Carpentry team for your next build or renovation. The reduction of stress, by way of quality workmanship and professionalism made all the difference to us at a personal level. Thank you for helping us out in our hour of need

We at Makers are grateful to work alongside NZ Carpentry. Our experience of Josh & his team has only been positive. Their capabilities, organisation, care and energy to achieve a high quality design outcome for all involved has been exceptional. During the recent construction of a new CLT home in Marahau, I really appreciated the regular photos, updates, and discussions around key details during construction.

The building process

A step by step process to your new home

1. Initial consultation. We take the time to meet and discuss your requirements and options. This is free to you and you are under no obligation to work with us if you feel we are not the right fit for your project.

2. Design. If you don’t have plans already we will connect you with our personally selected architects and designers to bring your dreams to life and work with them to make sure their design works with your budget.

3. Selections. If you haven’t made these choices yet we work with you to select the fittings, fixtures and kitchen design to ensure that there are as little unknowns as possible when it comes to pricing your job.

4. Cost Assessment. We provide a full in depth cost assessment of your project so we can provide an accurate fixed price quote, eliminating as much risk as possible.

5. Contracts. Once you are happy with the quote we use a plain English contract provided by the New Zealand Certified Builders Association and sit down with you to make sure you understand your contract cover to cover.

6. Construction. Once the contract is signed and deposit paid we will confirm your start date and construction can begin. You will be given frequent updates via email and your client portal on our website, along with regular scheduled site visits so you can see your design come to life.

7. Handover. We carry out a detailed inspection of the completed works with you and rectify anything that needs attention before final acceptance and occupation. Once all monies owed are paid you will receive your new keys and guarantee for your new home.

8. Maintenance Period. We attend to any issues that require attention during the 12 month defects liability period and send you regular reminders when things need to be checked and maintained for the next 10 years.

Meet the team
After taking a 6 month break from building in 2018 to backpack around the world with my family we returned to New Zealand with the intention of creating smaller more intentional homes and established New Zealand Carpentry to achieve this dream. We were inspired by many of the AirBnB and cabins we stayed in during our travels especially throughout Scandinavia and the Balkans where the performance standards of housing are well above that of NZ.
